Paper or Plastic?

Tuesday, 21. July 2009 von Tammy

How about neither?  According to a report provided by Anvil, each year Americans throw away some 100 billion plastic bags, typically made from petroleum or natural gas; its environmental impact is akin to dumping nearly 12 million barrels of oil. The story isn’t much better for paper bags: the 10 billion used every year come from nearly 14 million chopped down trees. So what’s an eco-conscious shopper to do?

Bring your own re-usable bags when shopping, of course!  Many stores now sell totes for you to re-use on future visits.  Or better yet, bring your own tote that is eco-friendly – such as the Anvil 100 percent organic cotton boater tote (#431) and the recycled cotton tote (#A505).

The roomy boater tote (21 1/2″ x 16″ x 7″) is a great bag when you have a long shopping list.  Or for a quick trip to the market, try the smaller (13″ x 15 1/2″ x 7 1/2″) bag.  Beyond shopping, a tote bag is great for a trip to the pool or beach, used as a gift bag and more.  I even personalized some totes (embroidered nameson them) for a friend to use for bridal party gifts.
